Perilla, also known as wild sesame, has long been cultivated in northern Thailand. Perilla seeds are a rich source of essential fatty acids, containing higher levels of Omega-3 than flaxseeds and more Vitamin E than fish oil. They can be consumed as an alternative to deep-sea fish oil, earning them the nickname "Omega-3 of the mountains." Perilla helps combat free radicals, reduces inflammation, lowers blood lipid levels, and is an excellent source of calcium and Sesamol, which is abundant in sesame plants.
